This patient came to us with a badly crushed foot. Much of the skin and soft tissue was damaged, and the first goal was to save the foot and prevent infection.
We started with debridement: carefully removing dead and contaminated tissue so that healthy tissue could heal. VAC therapy (a sealed dressing with gentle suction) then helped clean the wound and grow a healthy wound bed. Once the wound was ready, the foot was reconstructed to cover it.
At follow-up the foot had healed and the patient was standing and walking on it again. Every patient is different; results vary.
